Overview

The project was to create a disability learning centre, relocation and refurbishment of coffee shop and general refurbishment items.

Within the learning centre we installed a wet room with electronic hoist with a 90-degree rotating seat.

No services were available in the area, so we introduced new electrical and plumbing supplies including foul drainage. Using the colleges existing plan drawings, we presented our adaptation proposals for approval. Once approval was granted, we removed the raised access flooring, redirected any services and constructed a new timber frame with falls to create the wet room floor. The whole room was then tanked by a specialist contractor who supplied a 20-year guarantee for the installation. We fitted whiterock lining to the walls and tiled the flooring using a ceramic nonslip tile.

Before installation of the hoist, a contractor pressure tested the existing ceiling to ensure that it could hold the maximum weight loadings. Following signed approval of this, the hoist was installed, and we reinstated suspended ceilings.

Within the disability centre we also installed a new kitchenette area with an electronic rise and fall worktop.

The coffee shop was relocated using the pre existing materials and refurbished to a high standard including paint and floor finish.

Four existing classrooms were refurbished within the timeframe, to include paint, flooring and replacement of skylight window.

The project was completed successfully within the scheduled timeframe.
